Rambla de la Jata Viaduct
This viaduct is an important structure on the railway line connecting Granada-Murcia, specifically on the Almanzora railway, which corresponds to the Guadix-Almendricos section.
It was built at the end of the 19th century by the British company The Great Southern of Spain Railway Company Limited (GSSR). The structure consists of a sturdy stone masonry pillar with a wide, stepped base, connected to the walls that are attached to the ends of the riverbed by two refurbished metal bases. These bases allow the safe passage of hikers and cyclists over La Rambla de La Jata.
The Rambla de la Jata gathers the waters of the ravines and streams at the head of the Sierra de las Estancias and carves out its orography, bordering the Loma del Barranco de la Cuca ravine, among others, until it reaches the River Almanzora, which it joins a few metres from the viaduct. The bed of La Rambla de la Jata remains mainly dry throughout the year as its flow is stationary given that it comes from rainfall and snowmelt in the higher areas, being particularly torrential in autumn and spring.
