Infrastructure
Rambla Honda de Ciscario Viaduct
The Rambla Honda de Ciscario viaduct is a compact infrastructure built in stone masonry and made up of two semicircular arches and robust buttresses at the ends.
Originally, this construction served to facilitate the passage of the imposing trains of the Almanzora railway, which connected the municipalities between Guadix and Almendricos from 1885 to 1985, over the wadi.
The wadi that embraces this magnificent viaduct traces its path around the prominent industrial estate of Cantoria, ascending to 850 m, where it meets the spot of Rellanas de la Sierra, in the municipality of Partaloa. This watercourse has its source in this area, being the merger of several smaller streams and brooks.
The famous Estrechos del Ciscarico stand out, where the whimsical erosion, sculpted by strong floods, has carved out rock passages, which have become attractive for hikers and nature lovers.
Like other wadis in the region, the riverbed of the Honda de Ciscarico wadi remains dry for most of the year but comes to life seasonally with the flow generated by rainfall and snowmelt in the higher áreas.
