Infrastructure
Rambla del Palomar Viaduct
The Rambla del Palomar viaduct is a narrow infrastructure designed to facilitate the passage of pedestrians and cyclists over the Rambla del Palomar.
Its history is intertwined with the Almanzora railway, a railway network that linked the provinces of Granada, Almería and Murcia for a century, from 1885 to 1985. However, in the last year, rail traffic was interrupted on the section between Guadix and Almendricos, in Lorca (Murcia).
The watercourse that crosses this viaduct follows a path parallel to the Oria to Cantoria trail for a good part of its length. Its origin is near the Collado de las Brujas in the Sierra de Las Estancias, at an altitude of about 800 m, close to an old farmhouse called Del Palomar. This wadi also gives its name to a small group of houses at the confluence with the River Almanzora.
This viaduct, aside from being a mere crossing, becomes a silent witness to the railway history that once crossed it, connecting regions and leaving its mark on the landscape. At every step on it, the essence of a bygone era can be breathed and the importance it had in the communications network that linked these lands for a century can be glimpsed.
