Former railway warehouses

The railway from Sant Feliu de Guíxols to Girona ended at the port of this municipality, in the lower part of the town. There, at the end of the branch line at kilometre 38.710, a station was built. Achieving this last milestone was quite a challenge, since the application for the concession of this small branch line was made in 1915, but it would not be approved until three years later.

Despite this, the port warehouses would not be completed until two years later. The tinglados as they were known would finally be inaugurated in 1924.

The placement of the tracks was parallel to the cliff, thus entering the port from a small hill, where several defunct lines began, in turn parallel to the north and east docks.

Nowadays, nothing remains of those tracks, which were dismantled with the closure of the line, except for the facilities built to service the railway. Many of them are in a good state of preservation. This is the case of the old public works warehouse, popularly known as tinglado, whose appearance has barely changed over the years. Although it is true that the building’s roof has seen better days, the complex houses a quite beautiful and varied collection of locomotives and cars of the carrilet, in addition to Locomotive 1 that is currently in excellent condition after having been restored.

Finally, it should be noted that the old route to the port has not disappeared, and is currently used as a small road.
