Old Station at Llambilles

At kilometre 8.448 of the narrow-gauge railway (carrilet) that linked Sant Feliu de Guíxols with Girona is the old Llambilles station. It measures 72 m², is made of stone and has a pitched roof covered with flat tiles.

The station complex consists of the railway line and four buildings, all located on the left side of the tracks. The main building consists of a waiting room, a ticket office, a stationmaster’s office, a three-room dwelling, and a dining room-kitchen.

There is an annex building where the public toilets were located. This building has a hipped roof. The facilities were completed with a 5-metre-deep circular well with an annex laundry room.

At present, despite its fine state of conservation and the fact that it belongs to the town hall, the station is closed to the public. Having said that, this does not prevent it from being used as a service area for cyclists on the nature trail.

The railway line was inaugurated on June 29^th, 1892. The line had two first category stations, Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Girona, two second category stations belonging to Cassà de la Selva and Llagostera, three third category stations, Quart, Santa Cristina d'Aro and Castell d'Aro and the stops located in the neighbourhoods of La Creueta in Girona, Solivella and La Font Picant.

The demand for this railway line was quite high, so there were two other stopping points without a platform that served the neighbourhoods of L'Esclet and Llebrers, as well as the halt of S'Agaró.

In 1947 and 1951, subsidies were requested due to lack of liquidity and the reduction of rail traffic with the rise of new roads. After passing into state hands and continuing to accumulate losses, the line would be closed in 1969.

Notwithstanding, much of the rolling stock that belonged to the Carrilet was safeguarded, such as several locomotives, some boxcars and passenger cars corresponding to the first period.
