Old Station at Bell-Lloc Font Picant

In 1892, the works of the narrow-gauge train linking San Feliu de Guíxols with Girona were completed. The project began with the support of the businessmen of San Feliu and Baix Empordà with the intention of finding a means of transport to sell their goods, mainly cork products. It was in operation until 1969, although undoubtedly its golden age was between 1918 and 1929.

In order for the so-called Carrilet to run smoothly, the necessary infrastructure was built, such as the stations, most of them in a perfect state of preservation. This is the case of the Font Picant halt, located at km 29.334 of the line.

This halt was quite unique, since unlike the others it had three tracks. Two of them were passing tracks and a buffer stop that was extended in the direction of Girona acting as a siding. In addition, it had a single floor, 71 m² building for passenger use. Its construction was quite simple, made of masonry with a gable roof covered with flat tiles. The interior of the station consisted of a waiting room, ticket office, stationmaster's office and living quarters. The latter consisted of a dining room, kitchen and two rooms. Next to it was located the typical building of the toilets with a pyramidal roof.

On the same side of the railway tracks, but set further down from the station, was the building of the well-known Font Picant restaurant, which, although built by a private individual, would later belong to the company. The restaurant was in operation until the beginning of the Civil War, afterwards closing its doors for several years. It is still in operation today and the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, using local products from the allotments and nearby livestock farms.

The main reason for the construction of this halt was the discovery of the Font Picant, from where the medicinal waters of Bell-lloc flowed. In addition, it was located at a crossroads to Solius, Romanyà and Santa Cristina and, in its surroundings the church of Santa Maria and some farmhouses scattered around the countryside.
