Infrastructure
Old Quart Station
Quart station is an outstanding example of the incredibly well-preserved infrastructure that formed part of the narrow-gauge railway (carrilet) that used to link Girona with Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
This carrilet, which began its journey in 1892, was the first to operate on a track gauge of 75 cm. The "Feliuet", as it was affectionately known, used to transport cork to processing centres along its route. With the passage of time and the gradual loss of traffic, the line passed over to state ownership in 1963. Despite efforts to keep the line open, in 1969 it was closed and dismantled.
Quart station is a rectangular building with a gable roof. Its structure is a symmetrical composition with four walls, two doors and a central window on each side, and windows and portholes on each end.
Both the window frames and cornice are made of red brick, while the windowsills are finished with glazed brick. The roof ridge is embellished with wrought iron cresting.
Nowadays, the building is used as a municipal exhibition hall and on the platform outside there is a statue of the locomotive type that used to run on the line. It is a one-half scale reproduction of the engine build by Ramon Moliné, former stoker of Renfe and blacksmith of Quart.
The station is listed in the Architectural Heritage Inventory of Catalonia.
