Old wool washhouse
The wool washhouse in the village of El Poyo del Cid operated from its construction in1666 until the mid-19th century. It is on one of the banks of the River Jiloca, so that it could use its waters.
The facility had several buildings: a warehouse, where the wool was weighed, marked and stored; a stowage room, which housed the tools needed to press the wool into the sacks; pulling rooms, where the wool was sorted, separated and threshed; a kitchen; and several dining rooms and dormitories for the workers. In the interior of the complex there was a large meadow where wool was laid out to dry on the ground or on large wooden benches.
The washhouse was owned by Pedro Jerónimo Laundry, a minor nobleman who lived in Zaragoza, who often rented it to other people. It later had several owners until, around 1850, it fell into disuse. Today, only the boiler used to scald the wool and some of the buildings in the complex remain.
