Virgen del Moral hermitage

The Virgen del Moral hermitage is near the village of El Poyo del Cid, southwest of the village.

It was built in honour of the Virgen del Moral, patron saint of the locality, which takes its name from a large mulberry tree in the vicinity. Devotion to this figure goes back to the 18^th century, with this figure being the subject of pilgrimages.

It is a building with a Latin cross floor plan and a half-barrel vault roof. Its façade features a large oculus reminiscent of that which appears in the Virgen de las Cuevas Hermitage.

The building work was completed in 1762, on a site granted by the owner of the nearby wool washhouse. As for the materials used, the whole building is finished with masonry and good ashlars.

In the interior there is an image of the patron saint, the temple’s most valuable object, a 14^th century Gothic image brought by the Knights Templar and recently restored in the workshops of the Archdiocese of Zaragoza.
