Portillo de Soria
To the east of the province of Soria lies the municipality of Portillo de Soria. The village is 45 kilometres from the capital, Soria, and belongs to the Campos de Gómara region.
Its lands are fertile, as the waters of three streams, the Valdelagua, Barrancos and Pozuelo, flow through the area. Perhaps for this reason Portillo is surrounded by farmland where cereals and sunflowers form the backbone of the local economy.
There are two natural areas included in the Natura 2000 Network within this municipality: the Holm oak groves of Sierra del Costanazo and the Altos Campos de Gómara. There is also one particularly important holm oak, which has a base of 5 metres and is over 14 metres in height, and a gall oak tree with a base of 4 metres and height of 12, located in the centre of a large cereal field and surrounded by holm oak trees.
In the past, this village belonged to the estate of the Marquis of Zafra, in fact, part of the palace in which he lived still stands, or at least a crenelated wall. The rest of the building is in ruins. Other important buildings in this town are the Parish Church of San Miguel Arcángel and the Shrine of La Virgen de los Silos.
Every 8th September the inhabitants of Portillo de Soria celebrate the festivals of the Holy Trinity.
