Albocabe
Albocabe an uninhabited hamlet in the province of Soria, within the municipality of Aliud. The name of the hamlet comes from the Arabic, and it was once a manor belonging to Joaquín Carrillo. In the 18th century, there were only two known inhabitants of the village.
In later documents, it seems that in 1860, the municipality's census had 8 inhabitants and 7 rather rudimentary houses, something that clashes with the richness of the surroundings, with several springs and fertile fields full of vineyards, olive groves and other trees.
Today, however, there is no one left and most of the buildings lie in ruins. Of these constructions, the Church of San Miguel Arcángel is the highlight, built during the first third of the 16th century in the Gothic style. It had a single nave with a small chapel attached the only part that remains today. The chapel features a rectangular floor plan and was covered by a ribbed vault topped by a belfry. In Pascual Madoz's 19th century Geographical-Statistical-Historical Dictionary, there is a reference to the building, stating that even then "it was already in such a state of neglect that it threatened total ruin". Today it is on the Red Heritage List, an initiative of the Hispania Nostra Association, created in November 2007, with the aim of raising awareness and protecting elements of our cultural and natural heritage that are abandoned and in danger.
Despite the small size, the town once housed a third-class station and railway facilities belonging to the Santander-Mediterranean railway line between the municipalities of Gómara and Almenar de la Sierra.
