Buberos
Buberos is another small village in the comarca of Campo de Gómara. Located just over 1,000 metres above sea level, it borders the municipalities of Aliud, Almenar, Villaseca de Arciel, Gómara and Portillo de Soria.
Buberos sits on the banks of the River Rituerto, from which it draws its water from two springs, one of which is used for drinking water for the animals and as a public washing place. The second fountain, which is used to irrigate the fields, is known as El Pozuelo. There are also two unused reservoirs in the area.
The fertility that the Rituerto gives to these lands means that the mainstay of the Buberos economy is based on agriculture, with cereals and the sunflower the most common crops.
According to some sources, in 1661 the master stonemason Antonio Pérez oversaw the construction of the Parish Church of San Juan Bautista, the jewel of the village’s architecture. It is a temple that, despite having undergone various alterations and additions during the Baroque period, is primarily Gothic in style. Its structure features a single nave divided into three sections leading to the apse, which is semi-hexagonal in shape and houses three open side chapels. Inside, the star-shaped ribbed vault stands out, although the final part of the vault that remains is made of plasterwork with diamond-shaped decorations made during a Baroque renovation, affording the monument greater amplitude.
In the area around the village we find the Altos Campos de Gómara, a site of Community Interest included in the Natura 2000 Network.
The festivities of Buberos take place on 17 and 18 June to honour Santa María Magdalena.
