Cobos junto a la molina
This small hamlet belongs to the municipality of Merindad de Río Ubierna, located on the edge of the area of Las Torcas. This small settlement has a population of 10 inhabitants.
Cobos Junto A La Molina is located in the valley formed by the River Molina as it passes through this area. In the vicinity, travellers may come across wooded formations of gall oaks that stand out in the landscape, as the rest of the area is characterised by semi-desert features, with an abundance of ravines, gullies and areas of very sparse vegetation. This is why the land surrounding this small municipality is relatively fertile, even more so when compared to the other soils in the area.
In terms of this hamlet’s heritage, one of the principal buildings is the Church of San Torcuato. This church has a nave with transept and a polygonal chancel with buttresses. It is in a pretty good state of preservation and, in fact, still preserves some corbels dating from the Romanesque period. In the north of the municipality it is also possible to visit the ruins of the Shrine of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles.
Cobos, together with La Molina, celebrates local festivals every August - as do the other 20 districts that make up the municipality of Merindad de Río Ubierna - the so-called Fiestas de la Merindad, which sees the people from all the different areas celebrate their union and solidarity with each other by waving their banners, as well as community meals and popular dances.
