Lermilla
This small hamlet in Burgos is crossed by the River Homino and sits at an altitude of 773 metres. Lermilla belongs to the municipality of Merindad de Río Ubierna. In 2006 it had only six residents.
The locality formed part of the Cuadrilla de Rojas, more specifically in the Merindad de Bureba district. It appears in several censuses, including that of Floriblanca (1787). In 1857, it was already part of the municipality of Quintanarruz, and later became part of the municipality of Merindad de Río Ubierna, where it is currently located.
In terms of the architectural heritage of the locality, we might highlight its parish church in honour of San Esteban Protomartir, which remains pretty well preserved.
In terms of natural surroundings, Lermilla is located in an enclave of great beauty through which numerous streams and brooks meander, including the Homino which runs through the old centre of this hamlet. The many hiking trails in the surrounding area offer the chance to get to know this place a little better. Particularly interesting is the route known as the Homino River Canyon route, which starts in the vicinity of the town. Before reaching this path, there is a rest area with wooden tables and benches, as well as a children's playground.
Every 24 September the inhabitants of Lermilla celebrate their local festivals in honour of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes.
