Villarías
Villarías is a minor local entity belonging to the municipality of Villarcayo de Merindad de Castilla la Vieja.
In the Floridablanca Census, Villarías appears as belonging to the district of Laredo, with the jurisdiction of the Marquis of Villaría, who appointed its ordinary mayor. After the fall of the Ancien Regime, it was constituted as a constitutional town council called Villarías, in the district of Villarcayo, belonging to Castilla la Vieja. Subsequently, it was incorporated into the constitutional town council of Aldeas de Medina, in the district of Villarcayo. In 1901, it joined the municipality of Merindad de Castilla la Vieja.
The town has a parish church under the land grant of San Cristóbal. The church has a Romanesque apse in the Oña style and may have been built thanks to the intervention of the Monastery of Oña.
It is also worth mentioning that, very close to the hamlet, a slender bridge from the medieval period has been preserved, which helped to cross the river Nela for those who travelled along the old road towards Medina de Pomar.
