Santelices
The village of Santelices is located very close to the confluence of the rivers Engaña and Nela in Burgos.
It is a small village with no more than 80 inhabitants. It is recommended to visit the 20th-century viaduct over the river Nela. It is one of the largest viaducts of the Santander-Mediterranean railway line. It has 9 arches with a span of 12 metres, plus another one that reaches 20 metres. The pillars and abutments made of large ashlar masonry and masonry and concrete vault stand out. Railway lovers can also enjoy the old station, which is currently on loan to the caving group "Las Merindades".
As for the village’s artistic and cultural heritage, it is worth highlighting San Mamés church. Baroque in style, this temple consists of a single nave and a sacristy attached to one of the sides of the facade. It is precisely in this place where the mass in honour of San Mamés is celebrated on 7th August, coinciding with the festivities in honour of the patron saint of Santelices. During these festivities, a popular craft fair is organised where several craftsmen from the region come together. The celebrations also include a mass, bowling games and a street party.
