Acequion Aqueduct
Since ancient times, one of the main problems of the city of Albacete has been its water supply.
This supply was linked to the springs of the Ojos de San Jorge, some 10 kilometres from the town. With the arrival of the 18th century, a series of attempts began to bring water to the town on a regular basis.
It seems that it was the Corregidor of Albacete, Don Vicente Godino Muñoz, who tried to bring water to the town by means of an aqueduct that was to carry channelled water. One of the constructions for this purpose was the Acequión aqueduct, located in an old endorheic lagoon that has now been drained.
The Acequión aqueduct was a hydraulic transport element used to overcome some kind of unevenness or obstacle whose primary function was to supply the nearby farmland with water for irrigation. It is built in ashlar masonry and several arches of this infrastructure and a kind of hut at one end are still preserved. It is currently in a state of abandonment.
