Virgen de los Dolores hermitage
The Virgen de los Dolores hermitage is a temple, consecrated in 1719, in the municipality of Báguena, in the province of Teruel.
It is a Baroque building, consisting of a single rectangular nave with a polygonal apse in the chancel, and covered with a barrel vault with lunettes. The church is made of rammed earth, a building technique that uses compacted clayey earth, and it is reinforced with brick strips running horizontally throughout the building.
The exterior is notable for the height of the hermitage and the large flared oculi arranged along its façade. As for the doorway, it is a semicircular arch flanked by brick pilasters with estipites, above which there is a double cornice crowned with a niche containing the image of the patron saint of the hermitage, the Virgen de los Dolores.
This hermitage belongs to eight families from the village who, in rotating forty-day shifts, are responsible for preserving and conserving the temple.
The festivity of the Virgen de los Dolores is held on 15 September.
