Humienta
Humienta is a hamlet in the Burgos municipality of Revillarruz, from which it is only two kilometres away. It is also annexed to Olmosalbos, another hamlet of the same municipality. Today, Humienta has about 120 residents. It boasts a privileged natural setting, in the heart of the province of Burgos, through which the Los Ausines River flows, a tributary of the Arlanzón which it enters at the village of Cavia. The hamlet has its own parish church and some architectural remains that evidence the importance of this population centre in the past.
The economy of many of the municipalities in this part of the province of Burgos, including the town of Humienta, has historically been based on agriculture and livestock farming, especially sheep farming. In fact, this hamlet, as well as Revillarruz itself, are part of the itinerary known as the Jacobean Wool Route, one of the oldest commercial routes on the Iberian Peninsula and which extended between Alicante and Burgos. This is a historical route of great importance that allows us to learn about the importance of this product for rural areas such as this one. It is a route of great beauty and value, boasting incredible nature and heritage attractions, intersecting also with other great pilgrimage routes like the Camino del Cid.
One of the main heritage attractions of this small municipality is the Church of San Pedro. Every 29 September, the local residents gather to celebrate their patron saint's festivities.
However, Humienta's main attraction is not its architecture, but the environment that surrounds it. The surrounding countryside, and the tranquillity of the hamlet itself, make this Burgos district a perfect destination for rural tourism enthusiasts in search of a peaceful spot that's not without its charms.
