Quintanaluengos
The town of Quintanaluengos belongs to the Montaña Palentina region and the municipality of Cervera de Pisuerga.
Ancient documents have shown that the town became uninhabited in the 14th century and did not recover until two centuries later.
It has some ancestral homes, including a 17th century baroque palace that houses a small oratory and whose facade bears a coat of arms.
Its St. Lawrence church is made of Gothic masonry and the belfry is from the Romanesque period. It has a single nave with a starred ribbed vault. There is a hexagonal Romanesque baptismal font and several 17th century altarpieces inside, the largest of which is dedicated to St. Lawrence.
There used to be a church from 1105 dedicated to Saints Justus and Pastor that is no longer in existence. It had some features reminiscent of the Arabic and Visigothic styles and some of its capitals are preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Palencia.
The area is inside the Quintanaluengos preserve where only catch-and-release fishing is allowed.
The townspeople work in farming, cattle raising, and fishing, and the Pisuerga River is well known for the large number of trout found in its waters.
Its festivities take place in August in honour of Nuestra Señora del Castillo (Our Lady of the Castle) and St. Roque.
