Carbajosa de la Sagrada
Carbajosa de la Sagrada was founded by Alfonso IX of Leon at the beginning of the 13th century.
This name is quite common in Leon, since this area has many oak trees, which are known locally as Carbajos or Carbizos.
During the Peninsular War, the Allied Army camped in Carbajosa de la Sagrada and its surrounding area before the famous battle of Arapiles in 1812.
The church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is located in the Town Hall Square. It has a belfry with two bells and a porch that gives way to the church. In Carbajosa de la Sagrada, there is also a botanical garden, which is located in the surroundings of the Requesenes stream, with native and unique species of the province.
The town marks the beginning of the Carbajosa de la Sagrada-Alba de Tormes section of the Vía de la Plata (Silver Way) nature trail, an attraction for hikers and cyclists, whose route runs along what was formerly known as the Silver Railway.
Its inhabitants celebrate the patron saint festivities in honour of San Roque on August 16.
