Old Moneo Station
In November 1930, the Trespaderne-Cidad section of the Santander-Mediterranean Sea railway line came into service.
The Santander-Mediterranean Sea line project was intended to link the ports of Santander and Valencia, although it was never completed due to various circumstances. However, it was in operation for more than fifty years, connecting the Cidad-Dosante station, in the north of Burgos, and Calatayud, where it connected with another line of the Ferrocarril Central de Aragón (Aragon Central Railway) which headed for Teruel and Valencia.
A varied and versatile fleet of steam locomotives, passenger and goods wagons, all of them of national manufacture, used to travel along this track. Coal from La Robla, sand from Arija used in the glass industry, wood from the forests of Burgos and Soria, as well as imported citrus fruits were transported to the Mediterranean. Cereals, potatoes, fertilisers, livestock and building materials were also regularly transported.
One of the thirty-two stations that served this railway was Moneo station, built by the Compañía del Ferrocarril Santander Mediterráneo.
This complex was located at kilometre point 333.324 and served the town of Moneo. Its facilities were fairly basic, with a passenger building and a goods warehouse. This station is currently in perfect condition.
