Vallespinoso de Aguilar
Vallespinoso de Aguilar is a town that is located southeast of Aguilar de Campoo near the reservoir just before the Montaña Palentina Natural Park.
This small village combines historic monuments and natural surroundings, where you can visit the parish church dedicated to St. Julian and St. Basilisa. This Gothic-style church was built in the 16th century and consists of a single nave divided into three bays, which have a starred rib vault and a triple belfry with bells. Inside the church, there are two baroque altarpieces, the main one with St. Julian and St. Basilisa, surrounded by reliefs that remind us of the life of Jesus Christ, and another one with the Gothic alabaster image of St. Cecilia.
Another important treasure in this village is the 12th century chapel dedicated to St. Cecilia. Nestled on top of a rock, it was declared a Historical and Artistic Monument and has a magnificent elaborate facade.
Nearby are the few remains of an ancient medieval tower from the 10th century while in the area known as the Villalaín farm, there is a medieval settlement that once had a small Romanesque church, which no longer exists.
There are very few inhabitants in Vallespinoso, and all of them work in agriculture, cattle raising, and rural tourism.
Locals celebrate the feast of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes (Our Lady of Mercy) on September 24.
