Birdwatching hide
The birdwatching hide on the River Segre and Utxesa Reservoir Nature Trail is one of the most interesting spots for discovering the natural wealth of this protected wetland. Situated among the riverside vegetation and very close to the water, it allows visitors to observe birds in their natural habitat without disturbing them.
The timber-framed building features a simple, functional design that blends seamlessly into the landscape. It features partially enclosed walls, small viewing windows and benches within which visitors can observe the wildlife while sheltered from the sun and rain. Structures of this kind are common in wetlands and nature reserves, as they help to minimise the visual and acoustic impact on wildlife.
The area around the Utxesa reservoir and the River Segre is one of the most interesting sites for birdwatching in inland Catalonia. The combination of water, reed beds and riparian woodland attracts numerous waterbirds and migratory birds. From this observation point, it is possible to spot species such as herons, ducks, cormorants, storks and various other wetland birds.
The Natural Trail follows part of the old service track linked to the water system of the reservoir and the Seròs Canal, incorporating several viewpoints strategically placed along the route. These facilities not only make it easier to observe wildlife, but also help raise awareness of the ecological importance of the wetlands and river ecosystems of the River Segre.
