Albentosa viaduct
This is a viaduct which, despite its architecture being very similar to the other bridges on this route, stands out for its size. Located in the municipality of Albentosa, crossing over the river of the same name, it was built with reinforced ashlars and is 180 m long and rises 40 m over the river. Its seven arches allowed the railway that in the past linked the Ojos Negros mine with the port of Sagunto to cross this rugged environment. During the Spanish Civil War, two of the central columns were destroyed, although they were rebuilt during the war itself in 1938.
The train no longer runs through here in the direction of the Levante, but, as in other points of this disused railway operated by the Compañía Minera de Sierra Menera, the owners of the Ojos Negros mine, until it was closed in 1972, today this section of the track has been given a new lease of life. The routes has been restored as part of the network of Nature Trails that allows walkers and cyclists to enjoy this little bit of history. It has also been fitted with metal railings to both sides to ensure everyone can cross this imposing structure safely.
