Tunnel
Not far beyond the viaduct over Barranco de los Judíos ravine, we encounter a tunnel. This construction is around 350 m long and for years it was essential for the railway to pass through this steep area to connect the Ojos Negros mine with the port of Sagunto for the distribution of raw materials. Its architecture is quite similar to that of other tunnels located along the route that this train used to travel in the past. It was built in stone with materials that blend in quite well with the chromatic range of the surroundings.
Today, this old railway tunnel is part of the route included within the national network of Nature Trails. It means that this pass through the ravines of Teruel, is perfectly conditioned and walkers and cyclists. Also, although it is equipped with lighting witing, walkers are recommended to carry a torch, nonetheless.
