Campolara
Campolara is a village located in the heart of the province of Burgos, in the vicinity of the Sierra de la Demanda. It currently has around 61 inhabitants, after suffering several waves of rural emigration to the big cities, which has led to a decline in the population of the village.
Despite this, Campolara is located in an environment of great natural beauty, thanks to the privileged location provided by its proximity to the Sierra de la Demanda, and an area of historical importance, with Celts and the Romans walking these lands during their time on the Iberian peninsula. The architectural heritage includes the parish church, built during the Romanesque period. The streets of Campolara still preserve their traditional appearance, with large stone houses reflecting the traditional architecture of this part of the province of Burgos.
One of the main attractions of the natural environment in which it is located, sheltered by the Sierra de la Demanda mountains. Around Campolara there are activities like hiking, mountaineering and other activities that allow you to enjoy a unique landscape while discovering the landscape in which this small village is located.
In terms of local festivals, Campolara celebrates San Mamés on the first weekend in August. The next date on the village calendar is 25 November when the festivals in honour of Santa Catalina are held.
