Quintanalara
This small hamlet belongs to the municipality of Revilla del Campo in Burgos. It is located in a valley in the surroundings of the Sierra de la Demanda mountain range, in an area where the Romanesque style predominates in its churches and buildings. Quintanalara’s parish church stands out, and hosts festivals in honour of San Pantaleón, to whom the church is dedicated, every 27 July.
This hamlet has little more than four streets dotted with typical mountain houses with a stone façade, usually of ashlar or masonry. The village has a population of 35 according to the last census, although few of them reside in Quintanalara on a daily basis. However, this little corner of Burgos has become famous in recent years for the prodigious milestone achieved by its municipal library, a temple for readers with over 16,000 titles on its shelves. Thanks to public and private donations of all kinds of books, this town has become a focal point for bibliophiles all over the country. Quintanalara's library is committed to a new form of book lending where users who take a book leave one of their own, thus promoting a collective library that is renewed on a daily basis. This temple of reading has also become a cultural meeting place where different cultural events and activities are held to encourage people to visit this curious Burgos hamlet with a book under their arm and enjoy the peaceful natural environment in which it is located.
