La Olvera
La Olmeda is an administrative district belonging to the municipality of El Burgo de Osma, in the Castilian province of Soria.
This town has a history that extends back over a thousand years. The discovery of the remains of an ancient Roman camp, dating from between the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, in the vicinity of the village of La Olmeda, some 300 m from the town centre, between the rivers Ucero and Sequillo, provides clear evidence of this.
The annual meetings of the Junta de las Tres Casas were held at La Olmeda. A medieval institution made up of the councils of La Olmeda, Osma and San Esteban de Gormaz, which met with the aim of making use of the pastures and resources of the commonwealth.
The existence of this economic union is first recorded in various documents around the end of the 10th century and the beginning of the 11th century. It was finally officially established in the 13th century, under the signature of Alfonso X.
Regarding the town's monuments, it is worth noting the Parish Church of Santa María Magdalena. The property comprises a small building located at the entrance to the town centre. You can also visit the fountain and watering place of La Zorra, inaugurated in 1936 and built by Romualdo Martínez, a resident of Valdelinares.
The hamlet also boasts a watchtower of Muslim origin, constructed between the 10th and 11th centuries in the area known as El Enebral. The structure is approximately 9 metres high and 5 metres in diameter. It is situated in a position from which the fortress of Gormaz and other watchtowers can be seen, which were also part of this medieval defensive system.
Another noteworthy structure is the Tres Casas building. This was the former location of the association's meetings, which was originally constructed from brick but was subsequently demolished due to its deteriorated condition. Subsequently, La Olmeda, in collaboration with the other two towns that made up the board, constructed the current building.
The festivities in honour of the Virgen del Rosario, the patron saint, take place on the first weekend in August.
