Canal de La Rasa
La Rasa is a hamlet within the municipality of El Burgo de Osma. One of the thirteen population centres that make up this Castilian municipality, together with La Olmeda, Vildé and Alcubilla del Marqués.
La Rasa is a relatively recent settlement, dating from the mid-18th century, and thus differs from other villages and towns in the area, which are more traditional Castilian towns.
The estate was established as a private agricultural venture, comprising over 1,000 hectares, initially used for the cultivation of sugar beet and cereals.
Subsequently, in the 19th century, the area of La Rasa was selected as the location for the El Burgo de Osma railway station. For this reason, the old Valladolid-Ariza railway line, which served the area from 1895 to 1994, eventually passed through the vicinity of the town.
The La Rasa region has established itself as an important agricultural area. The area is characterised by a fertile plain, the result of the Duero river and the canal known as La Rasa or Canal de San Antonio, which in turn collects the waters of the Ucero and Sequillo rivers, near the village of La Olmeda.
Regarding the town's monuments, the Parish Church of San Antonio de Padua, located in the town centre, is worthy of mention. The structure comprises a single rectangular nave with a semicircular arched doorway, featuring a brick keystone and an entrance staircase, also in brick.
Furthermore, La Rasa offers the opportunity to visit the birthplace of Marcelino Camacho, a prominent Spanish trade unionist and politician, as well as the founder of Comisiones Obreras (CCOO).
La Rasa currently boasts one of the largest apple orchards in Europe. The property comprises a framework plantation of approximately 1,000 hectares, situated along the route known as the Manzana de Soria.
The town holds a festival in honour of its patron saint, Saint Sebastian, on 13 January.
