Tunnel
This tunnel is around 157 m long and for years it was essential for carrying iron ore on the railway linking the Ojos Negros mine with the port of Sagunto. It was an important piece of infrastructure to negotiate the unforgiving orography of the area.
Its architecture is quite similar to that of other tunnels located along the route upon which trains once ran, however, its construction is different, as it is excavated in living rock. The tunnel is boxed into the elevation and has steep excavated slopes on both sides that have progressively become colonised by vegetation.
Today, this old railway infrastructure is part of the greenway along the route of this railway line that has been integrated into the national network of Nature Trails. It means that this pass, located between the ravines of Castellón, is perfectly conditioned for walkers and cyclists. Although it is equipped with lighting inside, it is still advisable to carry a torch.
