Old Burbáguena halt
The old Burbáguena halt is in the municipality of Burbáguena, in the Jiloca district of Teruel and at the confluence of the Camino Natural and the Camino del Cid.
This railway infrastructure belonged to the old Calatayud-Valencia railway line, which ran across the province of Teruel and acted as a junction between the Báguena station and the old Luco de Jiloca station, 4.5 km from the halt.
It is a small, austere building. It consists of a single nave, with an apparently quadrangular plan, on a single floor and covered with a gable roof.
The infrastructure was built in masonry, and the doorway wall has been restored in brick. The entrance is covered by a small roof supported by metal beams.
Today, the halt is abandoned, with the entire roof having collapsed and the windows and wooden door in a decayed and rickety state due to the passage of time.
As for the railway route, the purpose of the Calatayud-Valencia line was to link the municipality of Calatayud, in Zaragoza, with the Levante area, crossing Teruel and reaching the province of Valencia.
The project, known as the Ferrocarril Central de Aragón, ran along the Jiloca Valley over approximately 300 km and entered service in July 1901.
Construction of the line began in the 1890s and was the responsibility of the Compañía del Ferrocarril Central de Aragón, a Belgian-owned company. In 1941, management of the company passed to the recently-founded RENFE and it ended up being closed in 1987.
Currently, only part of the route, between Zaragoza and Sagunto, still operates.
