Gothic church of La Mota
Located the La Mota district of Villaverde Peñahorada, this church was built in honour of San Martín in the Gothic style. Unfortunately, today it stands in an advanced state of ruin, although that does not prevent us from appreciating the beauty of the temple. The building, with a single nave and transept, was erected in ashlar stone and its most outstanding elements include the semicircular apse at the chancel, with a ribbed vault and buttresses, typical elements of early Gothic architecture. The two sides of the transept are Gothic ribbed vaults, while the rest of the nave has sexpartite vaults. The portico, with a semicircular arch, like the doorway, is located on one side of the church. The tower was built over a chapel attached to the side of the church.
Curiously, the façade of this temple was transferred to the exterior of the Faculty of Theology of Northern Spain in Burgos.
