Vilviestre de los Nabos
The village of Vilviestre de los Nabos is situated in the El Valle y La Vega Cintora region.
The earliest data on this village, which is one of four districts belonging to the municipality of El Royo, dates back to 1528. This is when the Census of Dairy Farmers records the existence of five family units in the village.
Although originally part of the municipality of Oteruelos, the area was separated from that municipality at the end of the 20th century and became part of El Royo.
The church of San Martín de Tours is a notable landmark within the hamlet. Constructed in the 16th century on the foundation of an earlier structure, it is a testament to the area's rich history and architectural heritage. The interior of the church features a main altarpiece with an inscription that bears the date 1716, which corresponds to the year in which the altarpiece was gilded and painted.
The neighbourhood is surrounded by a significant amount of vegetation, including elm, ash and willow trees.
According to documents discovered in the area, the residents of this town were previously engaged in the transportation of wool, and there is evidence of the presence of several cattle shearers who resided here. The recently discovered data indicates that Vilviestre was also a hub for cattle track redistribution in the past. A cattle track originating from here connected with Abejar and joined the Cañada Real Riojana and Galiana, situated in the vicinity of the Valdiego slopes.
Vilviestre de los Nabos is currently used as a second home.
The main festivities of this town are held on 11 November, in honour of San Martín, and on the second Friday of August.
