Alto Palancia II wind farm
This is a wind farm located in the province of Castellón, built and operated by Acciona Energía. It is divided into two parts, a first part with 8 wind turbines of 2,000 kW nominal power and a diameter of 80 m, and a second part with 15 wind turbines of 30,000 kW nominal power and a diameter of 87 m.
Wind energy is a way of obtaining energy by harnessing the power of the wind through the movement of the blades of wind turbines, which, through a system of gears and with the help of a turbine, transform the kinetic energy of rotation into electricity. With a capacity to rotate between 13 and 20 revolutions per minute, efficiency will depend on the intensity of the wind (starting to generate at a speed of 3.5 m/s and providing maximum power at 11 m/s; at 25 m/s and above, the wind turbine must be stopped to avoid damage to the mechanism). The average lifetime of a wind turbine is usually more than 25 years.
Wind energy currently accounts for 3% of global consumption. In Spain, it accounted for 20.9% of the total energy produced in 2013 and in 2015 it produced a potential of 23,000 MW, making Spain the second country in Europe and fifth in the world.
