Walnut tree (Juglans regia)
The walnut is a deciduous tree that can grow to more than 20 m in height. It has compound leaves with an odd number of leaflets. It boasts abundant male flowering on drooping catkins. Female flowers produce globular fruits popularly known as walnuts, consisting of a green fleshy covering that turns dark when ripe, a hard coating and an edible cerebriform seed.
This species has been cultivated since ancient times for the use of its fruits while its stem is also highly valued in cabinetmaking.
