Villarquemado
Villarquemado is a municipality and town in the province of Teruel, which according to popular tradition was called Villahermosa de las Tres Torres, acquiring its current name after destruction of many of its buildings during the period of Moorish domination.
Its main economic activity is agriculture, especially the cultivation of winter cereals and dry land (wheat and barley) and corn, taking advantage of its irrigated land. Livestock farming is also important and the service sector has grown in the town. The traditional cultivation and use of saffron is also preserved.
The architectural heritage is reflected on religious buildings, such as the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, the Shrine of San Roque and the Shrine of La Purísima. The main festivities in the municipality are held on the second weekend of September in honour of the patron saint of Villarquemado, San Roque, while the feast day of San Antón and Easter also see important festivities.
