Shrine of la Virgen del Espino
The Shrine of La Virgen del Espino is a small church located at the foot of the road to Ciria, with a square floor plan and whitewashed walls. The entrance to the building is through a huge wooden gate set within a semicircular arch made of reddish bricks, which stands out against the white of the walls.
In the province of Soria, worship of La Virgen del Espino dates back to the 13th century and, in most cases, is determined by the place where the Virgin is said to have appeared. The legends follow one after another in different places where the Virgin Mary is venerated, all of which have in common her appearance on a hawthorn tree.
The Virgin is celebrated on 8 December in the province of Soria.
