Old Tordesalas station
The Calatayud - Cidade Dosante line, better known as the Santander-Mediterranean railway, was an important railway project that was never finished. The initiative had the aim of linking the ports of Santander and Valencia. This corridor was to be built by the Compañía del Ferrocarril Central de Aragón and the Compañía del Ferrocarril Santander-Mediterráneo.
By the end of 1930, the construction of the section between Cidad-Dosante and Calatayud had been completed, but with the outbreak of the Civil War the works were paused. There was an attempt to complete the line and work was reactivated in the province of Santander, but in 1959 work stopped again.
Despite this, some 367 kilometres of track were completed on which passenger and freight trains ran from 1930 to 1985. The line had 32 stations, 16 sidings and 9 halt stations.
Six kilometres from Tordesalas we can find one of these sidings, located at kilometre point 52.459. This is the highest stop of the entire Calatayud-Soria section, at an altitude of 1066.2 metres.
The structure is similar to other sidings on the Santander-Mediterranean line. It is located on a straight road with a distance of 280 metres between the clearance posts. The platform is about 100 metres long.
It had three buildings: one for passengers, which lies totally abandoned, a Track and Works shed and the toilet building. A track from 1929 still remains on the main road.
In early 1985, with the closure of the line, this siding was closed and abandoned.
