Old Albocabe station
In January 1929, the old Gómara-Almenar-Albocabe station came into service with the inauguration of the Cabezón de la Sierra-Soria section of the Santander-Mediterranean railway line.
This third-category railway complex was located at kilometre point 69.312 and had a building for passengers, a warehouse and four service tracks. Looking at the layout, the main building and services were located on the left of the main track, with a secondary track on the right with a distance of 271 metres between the clearance posts. The platform was about 200 metres long and had a shelter.
Despite being located in a very small village, it became the most important station on the Soria-Calatayud section. Its loading facilities had sufficient capacity to handle the large agricultural production in the area. It served three localities simultaneously, although located some distance from all of them.
When the Iberian gauge railways were nationalised in 1941, these facilities were managed by RENFE. Later, in 1984, another service track was built to link up with the loading bay of a wheat silo that had been built very close to the station and which belonged to SENPA. It is still in operation today, although goods are transported exclusively by road.
On 1 January 1985, with the closure of the Santander-Mediterráneo line, the station ceased to provide passenger services. A short time later the tracks were lifted.
Today this railway complex is abandoned. Although the exterior of the passenger building is in reasonably good condition, the interior is in ruins. The roof of the service hut is partially collapsed, left open and without a door. For safety reasons, visitors are advised not to enter any of the buildings in the complex.
