Ontalvilla de Valcorba
Just 12 kilometres from the city of Soria is Ontalvilla de Valcorba, a small village located in the Frentes region which, together with Cubo de Hogueras and Martialay, belongs to the Municipal Council of Alconada.
Agriculture is the engine of the local economy here, with barley and wheat the main crops, although an industrial plantation of lavender, harvested on the Monte de Santa Ana, has recently taken off. There are some pig farms in the vicinity, including one of the most important artificial insemination farms in Europe.
Much like in the rest of the province of Soria, it is common to see specimens of deer, rabbits and partridges in these lands. As far as vegetation is concerned, there are no wooded areas, but there is the odd grove of holm oak and oak trees. A hundred-year-old walnut tree from the La Salma estate is worthy of special mention. With a base of almost five and a half metres in perimeter, it reaches a height of 15 metres and a crown of 27 by 24 metres.
A visit to the Church of La Santa Cruz is also recommended, and is the centre of the celebrations in honour of the patron saint on the first weekend in September.
