River Salcedal
The Salcedal is a small river that rises in the Burgos municipality of Jaramillo de la Fuente, in the natural environment of the Sierra de la Demanda mountains. The river has a short course, meandering through the area of Jaramillo Quemado and receiving water from other small streams that also originate in the shelter of the Sierra de la Demanda mountains. Before reaching Cascajares de la Sierra, the Salcedal flows into the River San Martín, shortly before it in turn joins the River Arlanza. The flow of the Salcedal River is markedly seasonal which means that it can run completely dry at certain points at certain times of the year as a result of the scarcity of rainfall, especially during the summer period, as this region of the province of Burgos is characterised by extreme temperatures in summer.
