Ausines station
The station was once part of the ill-fated railway line that was to link the Cantabrian coast, from Santander to the Mediterranean at the port of Sagunto. Technical problems, as well as the low profitability of the line, together with the political instability of the early 20th century meant the complete route of this ambitious project never saw the light of day. As a vestige of this railway line that never came to be, there remain today infrastructures such as the Los Ausines station, which no longer carries either rail services or passengers. With the final closure of the sections that did enter service, this building was completely abandoned and is now in a poor state of repair. The structure of the station is similar to that of others built in this part of Burgos that also formed part of the Santander-Mediterranean railway route, like the Cojóbar station.
Next to the old railway station of Los Ausines, a rest area for the Santander-Mediterranean Nature Trail has been installed. It is equipped with information panels about the area and the route of the trail, as well as tables and wooden benches for walkers and cyclists to rest.
