Castro
The village of Castro is part of the Grandas de Salime council. In close proximity to this rural centre is the site of Chao Sanmartín, a significant Celtic settlement considered by experts as one of the most valuable remnants of ancient prehistoric settlements in the region.
The immediate surroundings of this small village is characterised by gently undulating terrain, with the prominent Sierra del Acebo mountain range, peaking at 1204 m in the well-known Pedras Apañadas mountain. The predominant vegetation includes oak and chestnut trees, although recent years have seen a trend towards reforestation with pine trees.
Visitors to the area can also explore the protected regions of the Carondio and Valledor mountain ranges. Notably, the residents of Castro are primarily engaged in livestock farming.
