El Machueco de Albariza
Alvariza, also known as Albariza, is one of the villages that make up the parish of Belmonte. Locally, it is often referred to as El Machuco de Albariza, a name that comes from the ancient forge that has gained popularity and is believed by some to date back to Roman times. Remarkably well-preserved, this forge was used to manufacture iron and metal elements for the Cistercian convent of Santa María de Lapedo.
Located on the plain of the Pigüeña River, the village is crossed by the AS-227 road. In addition to the old forge, Albariza features a small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Covadonga.
