Ciadueña
Ciadueña is a hamlet in the municipality of Barca, located in the Almazán region.
Although the town was constituted as a constitutional municipality and included in Castilla la Vieja at the end of the Ancien Régime, it was finally integrated into Barca as a pedanía.
This small group of houses is notable for an archaeological discovery made in 2008 at the site of "Las Eras" of Cidueña, a city from the Celtiberian period.
Many experts consider this to be the best-preserved Celtiberian city discovered to date, given that Celtiberian cities were typically occupied by Romans who destroyed most of the archaeological record. Due to a lack of reoccupation, the remains were subjected to erosion, resulting in significant damage.
However, this site has been preserved in excellent condition, with no evidence of Roman reoccupation. It is therefore an invaluable archaeological reference point for the study of Celtiberian cities. The results of the carbon-14 tests have not been able to determine the exact time of construction of the city. However, they have determined that the dwellings were already built in 200 BC and that they were abandoned in the second half of the 1st century BC, as was the case at Numantia.
The site of Las Eras has yielded invaluable insights into the construction techniques employed by the inhabitants of the era, as well as the utilisation of the various rooms that comprised their dwellings. For instance, it is understood that Las Eras was protected by a 25-metre-wide moat and an adobe or rammed earth wall.
A significant number of historical artefacts of great value have been recovered from the site. The collection includes the "Vasija de los Caballos," a vessel with a capacity of 68 litres crafted from orange clay. This vessel is currently on display at the Numantine Museum in Soria.
The patron saint festivities take place in Ciadueña between 21 and 23 October.
