Shrine of San Antonio de Padua
This religious building stands on a hill near the town centre of Sot de Ferrer, in the Castellón province.
The temple features a Latin cross plan, crowned by a well-proportioned dome in the Churrigueresque style. The dome rests on four pendentives adorned with angular lunettes, complementing the presbytery and transept. The imperfect semicircular vault. Behind the main altar, there stands the figure of the saint in a small shrine.
On the Sunday preceding 13 June, the feast day of San Antonio de Padua, the traditional “Bajada del Santo” (Descent of the Saint) takes place. This pilgrimage sees both locals and visitors accompany the image of the saint in procession from the hermitage down to the Church of the Inmaculada Concepción in the heart of the village. The polychrome sculpture carried during the procession depicts the saint holding the Baby Jesus in one arm and a loaf of bread in the other.
