Sierra del Costanazo
In the east of the province of Soria we find a succession of mountain ranges including the Sierra de Costanazo, the Sierra de Deza and the Sierra de Miñana. They make up a wooded mass composed mainly of holm oak, which is common in the province and also found in the Tiermes region and in the Sierra del Madero.
The Sierra del Costanazo is a natural space in which, in addition to holm oak groves, there are many specimens of common juniper, as well as gall oak groves in the south and some reforested areas of resin pine (Pinus pinaster).
The area is popular with bird lovers. Egyptian vultures, griffon vultures and golden eagles all come to the cliffs located in the northern area to nest.
It should be noted that the Holm oak groves of the Sierra del Costanazo have been designated a Site of Community Interest (SCI) and form part of the Natura 2000 Network, extending over an area of 20 square kilometres encompassing the villages of Portillo de Soria, Torrubia de Soria, Tordesalas, Sauquillo de Alcázar and La Quiñonería, among others.
