Sierra de Aleza
The Sierra de Aleza is included within the Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) known as Altos Campos de Gómara. It is common here to observe steppe birds, including important breeding populations of the little bustard and black-bellied sandgrouse.
This is a pre-Iberian mountain range, formed by Cretaceous marine limestone, which joins others that sometimes reach over 1,200 metres, such as the Sierra de Cardejón, the Sierra de Santa Bárbara and the Sierra de Corija.
The area covers the comarcas of Campos de Gómara (Alto Rituerto) and Araviana in the east of the province of Soria, bordering Zaragoza to the east. It forms part of what is known in geology as the intra-Iberian corridor or Soria platform, an intramountainous basin formed by very flat landings at high altitude and totally dedicated to cereal cultivation.
In some areas there are patches of natural vegetation, mainly holm oak, gall oak and scrubland.
