Encinar royal de Arriba
The Encinar Royal De Arriba is a holm oak forest located near the city of Soria in an area known as Royal de Arriba. The holm oak is the most common tree of the Iberian Peninsula and in particular in areas like this part of Soria, where holm oak groves represent the largest forest area in the province. In fact, in this environment it is possible to come across large specimens that are hundreds of years old, making this one of the most interesting and best preserved holm oak groves in Spain.
The holm oak is characterised by its medium size, not exceeding 15 m in height, and its robust trunk. Its roots are powerful and able to adapt to different climate conditions. It is a species capable of withstanding severe conditions during the summer period thanks to the shade it provides itself, creating a perfect microclimate for certain species. It is also capable of withstanding heavy frosts, making it a species perfectly adapted to survive in a climate like in this corner of the province of Soria. It is scattered practically all over the Iberian Peninsula. It has countless uses, including the feeding of Iberian pigs, which feast on its fruit: acorns.
